Army Of Two: 40th Day Review

Army Of Two: 40Th Day, Sequel to a very average selling game. Personally I never played the first one so didn't know much of the back story on the two characters or the story overall. Let me just say as the first game I played this year, I was disappointed to say the least.

Campaign:
The story goes your in Shanghai, China with the two marine badasses Rios and Salem. Partners from the first one, You start off doing some basics missions when all hell breaks lose in the city. A army of men or terrorist destroy the city completley. Your job is to get the hell out of the city. Story made little sense to me but really didn't play a huge roll in how I liked the game. The game being based off two main characters it opens itself to tons of great Co-op Experiences. Now if you play alone the game is still fun, just having your A.I. partner along with you can get really frustrating. Times you get hurt he will drag you into the fire or reload when there's a heavy gunner laying down rounds of ammo on you. Some things I didn't like is besides the 3 different bosses you fought and the occasional heavy shotgunner not a lot of variety in the enemy forces. Environments were well done, it truly is a sight to see the whole city run down to the ground. Another thing I like about the game is the morality choices in the game, At the end of a chapter there will usually be a choice that will effect someone in the game. These choices add some depth to the game and are fun to see the outcome. Now the things I didn't like now you fight through a huge battle get through all your enemies and then get blown away by a RPG, Now it isn't a big deal if there was a checkpoint but you have to go all the way back. Very repetitive feel to the game got really annoyed fighting the same enmies in the same situations, Saving the hostages over and over. Sometimes when I would kill an enemy they'd still be standing on there feet. The ending was very disappointing a lot of buildup for nothing, It leaves you a choices where you essentially don't even care about the outcome. After you make your choice they play the scene out terrible bad. Average voice acting, Average game play mechanics, A lot of average in this game.

Multiplayer:
Now the multiplayer had some potential but is really not that good. With 3 types of game types including: CTF, Deathmatch, and territory matches that really are not a lot of strategy and not a lot of skill involved. Essentially first shot will always win the gun battles, Really the only time you do use strategies with your partner is in the Co-op Deathmatch. Lots of choices with gun classes and some average maps not a whole lot too keep you coming back to play this game. Not including the lag issues 3/5 games will lag and badly where its virtually unplayable.

Ending thoughts:
This game being a gears clone with the cover system, the badass personalities, and the deep Cooperative game play system fails for me. Very average campaign with very average multiplayer this game tries hard but I really think comes short of all my expectations.
